FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Why choose a dietitian?

Dietitians are the only nutrition health care professionals to be regulated by law. Dietitians provide evidence backed advice, meaning the information provided is based on science and robust research. Only those registered with the statutory regulator, the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) can use the title dietitian. Carolyn is also a full member of the British Dietetic Association.

  • I've seen a dietitian for my condition within NHS services, how is Spooner Nutrition different?

At Spooner Nutrition the aim is to provide in depth nutritional support, meaning its important in most cases to spend up to 90 minutes with you for your initial appointment. Within a Spooner Nutrition consultation many areas are discussed to support a positive outcome. This may include questions about your food preferences, health beliefs, social background, culture, religion, childhood experiences, family life, occupation, work environment and many others. Asking these questions and finding out details help us build an individually tailored nutrition care plan.

Another great benefit of using Spooner Nutrition, is Carolyn has a huge amount of cookery experience following a 6-year career as a professional chef. Where relevant, specific meal and snack ideas can be discussed, helping you to know what you can eat rather than always thinking about what you can't!

  • Do I need to fill in the pre appointment questionnaire?

Yes, it’s always very helpful to have this information in advance. It allows you to tell your story, however most importantly it means we have more time during the consultation to get to the advice-giving part. If you forget to complete the questionnaire it may mean you need to pay for further consultations. We ask that you complete the questionnaire no later than 48 hours before the booked date.

  • How do appointments work?

Following your booking a link for a video call will be sent over to you via email. If you prefer the consultation can be conducted over the phone.

  • I can’t see the nutritional service I’m looking for…

Can’t see what you are looking for, just get in touch. Diabetes and relating health conditions are the main areas of expertise within Spooner Nutrition however we may still be able to help with other nutrition related queries.

  • Are there any age restrictions for clients?

We see clients over the age of 18 years old.
